What are some of the classic Fiat cars?

Antonio asks: What are some of the classic Fiat cars?

Americans love classic cars and spend millions of dollars each year on these expensive hobbies, but when it comes to investing in a sports roadster, most collectors overlook one of the most underappreciated classics out there; the Fiat 124 Spider. The 124 Spider is a 2+2 convertible that was designed by Pininfarina and made its debut at the Turin Auto Show in 1966. While it was marketed first by Fiat, in 1982 Pininfarina took over and marketed it until 1985 under the name the Spider Azzura.
The body of the 124 spider was designed by Sergio Pininfarina himself, using the designs of both the Ferrari 275 GTS and the Chevrolet Corvette. This design was emphasized even further several years later when in 1981 the Spider 2000 was released to commemorate the Golden (50th) anniversary of Pininfarina. Today the Fiat Spider 2000 is among the Fiats most coveted by car collectors. Another rare model is the 124 C-Spider-Abarth, sold in showrooms as the 124 CSA. This sports version was first produced in 1972, had 128 hp, and is nearly as sought after as the Anniversary Edition. Less than 1,000 of the CSA models were produced as they were intended to be marketed to individual buyers.
Whatever the reason that many American collectors tend to shy away from the Fiat, it certainly deserves more credit than it is gets. The fact that it is so often overlooked by collectors however, means that they can be found for a more reasonable price than many other classics. Aside from the MG Midget and the Triumph Spitfire, the Fiat 124 is probably the most inexpensive point of entry in the sporting roadster market today. They can be easily found through local want ads and as a project car the 124 is a great way to go. For more information about Fiats, or to view some of the new models for sale, visit
